Yearbook

When I was in high school, I avoided cameras so much that the only picture of me in the yearbook my senior year was from the half time at a football game.  I twirled a rifle in the band.  In the photo, I was lying on the grass while a sousaphone player stepped over me.  It was an action shot.  I think I'm the only one who knows that was me lying on the grass.

Cameras are easier to deal with when you're an avatar.  Sometimes.  That SL smile, though *shakes head*.  I think it makes for a perfect awkward yearbook photo.  So, here is my contribution to Strawberry Singh's yearbook challenge.

School Portrait

School PortraitMy trick for the second life smile is to take two pictures. One without the smile, and one with the smile. Then I layer the smile on top in Gimp. I erase the smiling squinty eyes so that the non-smiling normal eyes show through. It makes for a bit of a less awkward smile.   I used the anypose HUD (like Berry).  It's a very handy thing to have.

Another trick is to catch a picture of that halfway point between smiling and not smiling. I did that in this photo on the left, but I felt like the bigger smile was a bit more yearbook-like.

My memories of high school were not good.  I do sometimes miss tossing that rifle up in the air, though.
